WELCOME TO THE
ELLIS-ROBINSON-BARNWELL
ARCHIVES

   Greetings.

Thank you for your interest in these archives.  Here, you will find (selected from the full archives) photos, letters and other family documents which were passed on to me by my parents Marcella Robinson Barnwell and Irving Frederick Barnwell.  These archives document aspects of African American life in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City between 1903 and 1965.

My maternal grand parents (Dillard Robinson and Hallie Ellis Robinson) began their journey to Chicago and then Los Angeles in Winchester, Kentucky and Athens, Georgia respectively, and migrated to Los Angeles in 1903 where my mother (one of seven children) was born.  My paternal grand parents (Lucia Parker Barnwell and Robert Barnwell) seemed to have lived their lives in Charleston, South Carolina and it was from there that my father journeyed to New York City where he and my mother met and were married.

Please come in, explore and enjoy.  Please join the mailing list (below) so that I can keep in touch with you.

Please share this site with others; be inspired to explore your own family history; and feel free to drop me a line
